New gutters
New gutters cost €25 to €65 a metre in uPVC, fitted, and €600 to €1,900 for a whole semi with downpipes. On a new extension or garage, the gutter goes up once the fascia is on and before the downpipe is connected to the drain.
Free, no obligation. One local company prices it, not five.

What's fitted
Extensions and garages
On an extension the gutter goes up after the fascia and before the downpipe is connected. Make sure it's on the builder's or the gutter company's price, not left between them. A shed or garage gutter is usually a short uPVC run with one downpipe into a water butt or a soakaway.
Getting the fall right
A gutter needs a slight fall towards its outlet, typically about 1 in 600, or 1 cm over 6 m. Set it dead level and water sits in it; set it too steep and it shoots past the outlet in a downpour. Long runs often get an outlet in the middle and fall both ways.

Not easily. Brackets screw to the fascia; with none, they need rafter brackets fixed under the roof covering, which is a roofer's job.
No, not for gutters on an ordinary house. On a protected structure, talk to the council before changing cast iron to uPVC.
